Taking Stock. The holidays are a time for us all to be with the ones we love, and remind ourselves why we work so hard. It's natural to reflect on what's occurred and what lies ahead. In the tech world in which I have been living for the past 30 years, we've seen amazing things. It's hard to believe that only 30 years ago, the PC was just a fad, and the "experts" were wondering if it would really catch on!!!

The Passing of a Giant - Steve Jobs. Lately I've been reading the biography of Steve Jobs, (great read). The book offers many insights into someone who truly fit the descripion of a "genius" - who saw the world differently, and who, it is impossible to argue, changed not just an industry, but the world. What does this have to do with me you might ask?

If there's one insight about Steve Jobs that stands out above the rest, it's his absolute unwillingness to compromise on his vision of great products that combine form and function - that encourage creativity and work with an uttter simplicity that makes users manual a thing of the past. And this vision did not come quickly or easily. Because of it, he was never motivated by short term profit, or personal material things. Because of it, he developed a team of people who could think and work beyond boundaries that others saw.

Lesson Learned. There is much to be learned for all of us from this unwavering commitment. We've been talking a lot about Transformation in our newsletter. Transforming your business through ERP, taking your organization to another level. and envisioning what this can mean to you and your organization. It all starts with a vision, and as we look out over the new year, we encourage you to polish your vision, embrace it strongly, and don't let go!

As we approach the end of year holidays I thought it would be a good idea to talk about some lighter and more personal tips. And in keeping with Innovative IT's new announced focus, I will offer 3 "eX" tips. They are not "ex" as in no longer good tips, but they all start with "eX".

eXtract.. In everything we do, in work and play, there are good parts and bad parts although I’ll admit there are varying degrees of each. Extract the bad parts, learn from them and throw them away – get them out of your mind. Keep the good parts, learn from them and stay positive. Whether you know it or not people that interact with you can see and feel your attitude.

eXpand. It is human nature to want to keep all things the same, but it is also human nature to desire discovering new things. Expand your horizons. Try to do something you have never done before or to do something a different way than before. It could be something personal or something professional. The experience is worth the effort.

eXhale. We have all worked and lived with a suspect economy for a very long time. And, during that time we have all held our breaths waiting for the next ball to drop, hoping that it is not directly on us. Exhale and relax a bit, now is the time. We’ve earned it. The exercise gurus and the stress management experts tell us it is good for body and mind.

I hope you all have a wonderful holiday season and start the New Year on a bright and happy note.
